Ato

The Ato are the first created species in the Susiverse. They are wise, benevolent beings that can manipulate and weave Sus to create all kinds of life. They love nature and honor Sus in all its forms. Ato are natural-born majick users and taught it to many of their creations.

Ato have tomato-like skin and a single eye in the middle of their large, round heads. Their skin colors span a spectrum of reds, greens, purples, and yellows. 

Culture

The Ato shaped their homeworlds, filling them with all their creations. Because of this, they have an intimate connection with nature. They maintain a harmonious relationship to the natural world so as not to harm their creation. Their diets are strictly vegetarian to avoid unnecessary death. Similarly, Ato cities are integrated into the biosphere to avoid disrupting the ecosystem. Sometimes their cities are nearly indistinguishable from the natural landscape.

Life Stages

Infancy (0–1 year)

  • Wholly dependent on caretakers
  • Developing basic motor skills
  • Observing the world around them

Early Childhood (1–4 years)

  • Fine motor skills and basic speech
  • Relationships with other children
  • Learning independent care
  • Basic understanding of society and Susiverse

Adolescence (5–8 years)

  • Advanced education (philosophy, history, politics)
  • Early contribution to society (simple jobs, apprenticeships)
  • Instruction for learning to control majickal abilities

Year of Passage (age 9)

A ceremony is held on the last day before an Ato reaches age 9. This mentally sends them to a timeless plane in which they will seek the wisdom of the Shish. Through meditation and self-discovery, the Ato will learn their purpose before returning home as an adult one year later.

Adulthood & Reproduction (age 10+)

  • Professional contribution to society
  • Developing life partners
  • Having children

When two adult Ato develop a deep bond, they may choose to create a child by holding both hands and gently pressing their foreheads together. Through majick and the creative power of friendship, they manifest a baby Ato.

Eldership (age 90)

When an Ato completes their ninth decade of life, they gain the title of elder and typically pursue politics or asceticism. Ato do not die of old age, so this can be the longest stage of an Ato’s life.

Asceticism

Ascetic elders will spend the rest of their lives in and out of the timeless plane. If an ascetic achieves sight through the eyes of the omniscient Shish, they may permanently blind themself to maintain their connection.
